Acer palmatum Tree

Acer palmatum is a classic Japanese Maple with an elegant form, deeply lobed leaves and excellent autumn colour. Green in summer, the leaves can have 5 to 7 lobes and turn colourful shades of yellow, orange and red. It can also produce small, winged fruits (ornamental) that add further seasonal interest. Growing to 5 x 4 metres in 20 years, this Japanese Maple makes a wonderful feature. 

The ancestor to more modern varieties, Acer palmatum is hardy and reliable. It performs best when planted in reasonably well-draining soil and is protected from strong winds and harsh midday sun - to keep its foliage at its best.
