Betula utilis jacquemontii Tree

Betula utilis jacquemontii Tree

This elegant Himalayan Birch tree is popular for its year round interest due to the intense white bark it displays. Betula utilis jacquemontii has medium sized, green foliage throughout spring and summer, which turns creamy yellow in autumn before falling; leaving a ghostly, bare, but exquisite, architecture of the Himalayan Birch tree. The peeling white bark is striking and tactile, beautifully complimenting the bright stems of trees such as Coral Bark Maples.

In its majestic upright form, Betula utilis jacquemontii will grow to a height and spread of 8 x 4 metres in 20 years. This is a hardy tree that will tolerate virtually all conditions and will make an outstanding feature tree, especially in a winter garden. It is fantastic planted in groups or avenues but also works well alone.

A little bit of history - in the wild, jacquemontii Birch grows from Kashmir eastwards towards central Nepal. It was first collected from Kashmire in 1831 by french naturalist Victor Jacquemont, invited to explore his country by Maharajah Ranjit Singh, ruler of Kashmir, much of which no other European had ever seen.

We also offer Betula jacquemontii multistem birch tree.
